Jon Jay is an American professional baseball coach currently serving as the first base coach for the Miami Marlins. He is a former Major League Baseball outfielder with a career that included playing for several teams including the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Angels. Jay played college baseball at the University of Miami for the Miami Hurricanes and was selected in the second round of the 2006 MLB draft by the Cardinals. During his playing career, he achieved notable defensive success, holding the third-highest modern-day career fielding percentage for a center fielder at .996. His MLB debut came in 2010 with the Cardinals, where he had a productive rookie season batting .301 with four home runs, a .780 OPS, and two stolen bases over 105 games. Jay was the starting center fielder for four consecutive NLCS teams from 2011 to 2014 and was part of the 2011 World Series-winning team.
