As a wide receiver, he played in the National Football League for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins. During his time with the Steelers in 1968, he served as the team's primary kick returner, returning 29 kicks for 589 yards. His tenure with the Redskins included a notable game on December 13, 1970, when he caught six passes for 120 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. Henderson also played one season in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders, contributing to their Grey Cup victory in 1971. He played college football at Colorado State University and was selected in the third round of the 1968 NFL/AFL draft.
