Johnathan Paul Manziel is a former professional football quarterback who has played in the National Football League, Canadian Football League, Alliance of American Football, and Fan Controlled Football. Born on December 6, 1992, he gained prominence during his college career at Texas A&M University, where he became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy in 2012. He also was the first freshman to receive the Manning and Davey O'Brien awards and was named SEC Male Athlete of the Year in 2013. Manziel's success in college included becoming the Aggies' starting quarterback during his freshman season and setting several FBS and SEC records, culminating in a victory in the 2013 Cotton Bowl Classic. After his sophomore year, he declared for the NFL draft and was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2014 draft. His professional career in the NFL lasted two seasons amid reports of inconsistent play and off-field controversies, which eventually led to his release in 2016. Manziel later pursued playing opportunities in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes, but his time in Canada was brief due to a league ban for violating his contract.
