Johnny Carson: podcast appearances and interviews

John William Carson was an American television host, comedian, and writer known primarily for hosting The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He presided over the show, which was the third incarnation of The Tonight Show on NBC, from 1962 to 1992. Born and raised in Iowa, Carson hitchhiked to Hollywood after high school and served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Carson began his career in radio before transitioning to television, eventually taking over as host of the Tonight Show from Jack Paar. During his four-decade career, he received several awards and honors, including six Primetime Emmy Awards, the Television Academy's 1980 Governor's Award, and a Peabody Award in 1985. He was also inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1987. In 1992, Carson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 1993 he received a Kennedy Center Honor. Known for his casual, conversational approach and quick wit, Carson became a cultural icon and is widely considered the King of Late Night Television.
