John McAfee: podcast appearances and interviews

John David McAfee (born September 18, 1945, died June 23, 2021) was a British and American computer programmer and businessman known for founding McAfee Associates, a company that produced the first commercial anti-virus software in 1987. He resigned from the company in 1994 and later became its most vocal critic, advocating for consumers to uninstall its software and disavowing ongoing use of his name in branding. McAfee was a two-time U.S. presidential candidate representing the Libertarian Party, running in 2016 and 2020, with a platform emphasizing privacy, personal freedom, and opposition to government surveillance. In addition to his work in cybersecurity, he founded multiple companies including Tribal Voice, QuorumEx, and Future Tense Central, and held leadership roles in others such as Everykey, MGT Capital Investments, and Luxcore. His personal and business interests spanned smartphone applications, cryptocurrency, yoga, light-sport aircraft, and recreational drug use. McAfee resided in Belize for several years before returning to the United States in 2013 amid legal issues related to suspicion of murder. His advocacy for libertarian principles extended into his legal challenges, which he framed as resistance to governmental overreach. In 2020, he was arrested in Spain on U.S. charges of tax evasion. McAfee was found dead in a Spanish prison cell in 2021, with his death ruled a suicide; however, there was speculation and controversy surrounding the circumstances of his death, with his wife expressing doubt that it was suicide.
