John Mahama: podcast appearances and interviews

John Dramani Mahama is a Ghanaian politician and member of the National Democratic Congress. He has served as the president of Ghana since January 2025, following his victory in the 2024 election where he defeated the incumbent vice president. Mahama previously served as president from 2012 to 2017 and holds the distinction of being the first Ghanaian head of state to be born after the country's independence in 1957. His political career includes serving as a Member of Parliament for Bole/Bamboi from 1997 to 2009, and holding the position of Deputy Minister for Communication between 1997 and 1998, before becoming the substantive Minister for Communications in 1998. He was vice president under President John Atta Mills from 2009 to 2012. Mahama assumed the presidency in 2012 following the death of President Mills, making him the first vice president to succeed a deceased president in Ghana. He was subsequently elected to a full term in December 2012. Mahama sought re-election for a second term in 2016 but was defeated by Nana Akufo-Addo, becoming the first Ghanaian president to not win a consecutive second term. He also ran as the NDC's presidential candidate in the 2020 election, but was again unsuccessful. His 2024 election victory marked a historic achievement as he became the first Ghanaian president to be democratically elected to a non-consecutive second term.
