John Byrne is a British-born American professional associated with Liverpool John Moores University. His background includes extensive work in the comic book industry, where he has contributed as a writer and artist on numerous major superhero titles. Byrne's notable achievements include facilitating the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics's Superman franchise with the limited series The Man of Steel, which introduced the first variant cover for the character. He has played a key role in shaping the narratives of popular characters such as the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Wonder Woman. Byrne began his career working as a penciller, inker, letterer, and writer, and co-plotted story arcs like the Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past while working on X-Men.
