Joe Simpson, born on 13 August 1960, is a British mountaineer, author, and motivational speaker. His mountaineering experience includes surviving a severe accident in Peru in 1985, during which he fell into a crevasse and was presumed dead by his climbing companion. Despite his injuries, Simpson survived the fall and managed to crawl back to his base camp. His ordeal was detailed in his 1988 book Touching the Void, which has been adapted into a documentary film in 2003 and a stage play in 2018. Simpson’s survival story and his ability to overcome extreme adversity have contributed significantly to his reputation as a motivational speaker.
