James Irsay was an American businessman who served as the principal owner, chairman, and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League from 1997 until his death in 2025. He initially joined the organization as general manager in 1984 and held that position until 1996. Irsay was the surviving child of businessman Robert Irsay, who acquired the Baltimore Colts in 1972 for a reported $12 million and transferred the team to Indianapolis in 1984. At the time of his death on May 21, 2025, Forbes estimated his net worth at 4.8 billion U.S. dollars.
