James Downey Craig, born on May 31, 1957, is an American former ice hockey goaltender known for his participation in the 1980 Winter Olympics. He gained prominence as part of the U.S. Olympic hockey team that secured the gold medal in what is widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in sports history. During the tournament, Craig distinguished himself with a notable performance, including stopping 36 of 39 shots against the heavily favored Soviet Union in the match dubbed the 'Miracle on Ice.' Following this victory, the United States defeated Finland to clinch the gold medal. Craig's athletic achievements extended into his professional career, during which he played in the National Hockey League for the Atlanta Flames, Boston Bruins, and Minnesota North Stars from 1980 to 1983.
