About Jim Clark

James Clark was a British racing driver from Scotland who competed in Formula One from 1960 to 1968. He was known for winning two Formula One World Drivers' Championships in 1963 and 1965 while driving for Lotus. At the time of his death, Clark held records for the most wins, pole positions, and fastest laps. His racing career began in road rallying and hillclimbing, and he advanced to sports car racing, gaining attention while racing a Jaguar D-Type and Porsche 356. Clark finished second in class at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans driving a Lotus Elite and made his Formula racing debut in Formula Junior, winning the championship ahead of John Surtees. His talent was quickly recognized, leading to a promotion to Formula One with Lotus, where he secured his first podium finishes and his maiden victory at the 1962 Belgian Grand Prix. Clark's success continued throughout the early 1960s, culminating in his first World Championship title in 1963, after achieving a record number of victories that season. Despite technical challenges and reliability issues, he secured his second World Championship in 1965. Clark's versatile racing talents extended beyond Formula One; he earned championships in French and British Formula Two, the British Saloon Car Championship, and the Tasman Series, where he won three titles and set a record 15 race wins. He also competed successfully in sports cars and rallying, including participating in the Rally of Great Britain. Clark remains a significant figure in motorsport history, holding several records and being inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990.
