Jennifer Reeder: podcast appearances and interviews

Jennifer Reeder, born in 1971 in Ohio, is an American artist, filmmaker, and screenwriter. She has produced notable work including the short film A Million Miles Away in 2014, which was nominated for a Tiger Award for Short Films at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was screened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Short Narrative Films category. In 2003, she held a solo screening at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and she received a Rockefeller Grant for New Media in 2002. Her work has been recognized with a Creative Capital grant in 2015 to support her first experimental feature-length film Knives and Skin. Reeder was awarded a SFFILM Rainin Grant for scriptwriting during 2018–2019 and received the Alpert Film Award residency at the MacDowell Colony in 2019. In 2021, she was honored with a United States Artists Fellowship. Early in her career, Reeder gained attention for her performance and video work as White Trash Girl, an identity through which she examined lower-income white culture in America. Her recent films focus on adolescent girls, exploring their use of music, slang, and fashion to communicate identity and emotional experiences. Her films have been featured at several prestigious venues including the Whitney Biennial, The New York Video Festival, and the Venice Biennial. Currently, Reeder is an Associate Professor of Moving Image at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and is the founder of the social justice organization Tracers Book Club, which addresses feminist issues.
