Jeffrey Archer: podcast appearances and interviews

Jeffrey Howard Archer, Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare, is an English novelist and former politician born on 15 April 1940. He served as a Member of Parliament for Louth from 1969 to 1974 but did not seek re-election after nearly facing bankruptcy. Archer then established himself as a novelist, achieving significant commercial success. His novel Kane and Abel, published in 1979, is among the best-selling books globally, with approximately 34 million copies sold. Overall, his books have sold more than 320 million copies worldwide. Archer returned to politics, serving as the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party from 1985 to 1986, but resigned following allegations published by a newspaper regarding payments to a prostitute. He successfully sued for damages in 1987 over the claim. In 1992, Archer was elevated to the House of Lords as a life peer and was subsequently chosen as the Conservative candidate for the mayor of London, though he withdrew in 1999 after revelations that he had lied in a prior court case. In 2001, he was sentenced to four years in prison for perjury and perverting the course of justice, leading to the end of his active political career. He was released early in 2003 and retired from the House of Lords in 2024.
