Janna J. Levin is an American theoretical cosmologist and a professor of physics and astronomy at Barnard College. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in astronomy and physics with a concentration in philosophy at Barnard College in 1988 and completed her PhD in theoretical physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993. Her research focuses on investigating the possibility that the universe might be finite in size due to a nontrivial topology. Levin's work also encompasses the study of black holes and chaos theory. She has been a member of the Barnard College faculty since January 2004, where she holds the position of Claire Tow Professor of Physics and Astronomy. Her work in black hole art explores the intersection of scientific concepts with artistic expression, highlighting her engagement with the aesthetic and conceptual dimensions of cosmology.
