Jamie John Ward, born on 12 May 1986, is an academic serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication & Media at the University of Sussex. His professional background as a footballer includes playing as a striker and representing the Northern Ireland national team. Ward was born in Birmingham and began his football career with Aston Villa, his hometown club. Although he did not establish himself in Aston Villa's first team, he spent time on loan at Stockport County before transferring to Torquay United. His subsequent career included stints at Chesterfield, Sheffield United, Derby County, and Nottingham Forest. Ward qualifies to play for Northern Ireland through his grandfather and was part of the national team during UEFA Euro 2016, where Northern Ireland reached the round of 16.
