James Holmes: podcast appearances and interviews

James Eagan Holmes is known for his role as an American convicted mass murderer responsible for the 2012 Aurora theater shooting. On July 20, 2012, Holmes carried out a shooting at a Century 16 movie theater, resulting in the deaths of 12 people and injuries to 70 others, including 62 directly and eight indirectly. Prior to the incident, Holmes had no known criminal background. He had prepared his apartment with explosives, which were later defused by a bomb squad. Following his arrest, Holmes was jailed without bail and faced multiple suicide attempts while in custody. He pled not guilty by reason of insanity, a plea that was accepted, and his trial commenced on April 27, 2015. In August of that year, Holmes was sentenced to 12 consecutive life sentences plus 3,318 years without the possibility of parole after the jury spared him the death penalty by a single vote. The sentence was accompanied by a judicial statement emphasizing that Holmes was intended never to be released into free society again.
