James Edward Franco, born on April 19, 1978, is an American actor and filmmaker. He has appeared in a wide range of films including Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Milk, Eat Pray Love, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Spring Breakers, and Oz the Great and Powerful. Franco has frequently collaborated with fellow actor Seth Rogen on multiple projects, such as Pineapple Express, This Is the End, The Interview, Sausage Party and The Disaster Artist, in which he received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. His performance in 127 Hours also earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the 83rd Academy Awards. Franco's television work includes a notable role as Daniel Desario on Freaks and Geeks, a series that developed a cult following. He portrayed the title character in the television biographical film James Dean, earning a Golden Globe Award and receiving nominations for a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. He also had a recurring role on General Hospital and starred in the limited series 11.22.63, as well as the HBO drama The Deuce. In 2014, allegations of inappropriate and sexually exploitative behavior surfaced against Franco, involving interactions with minors and former acting students. A lawsuit filed by some of his former students was settled in 2021.
