John Randolph Webb, born on April 2, 1920, and deceased on December 23, 1982, was an American attorney and former Jacksonville City Council president. While he is best known for his career in the entertainment industry, Webb's later professional pursuits included public service and legal work. Webb’s career in entertainment began in the 1940s as a radio personality, where he starred in several radio shows and dramas. He created the iconic series Dragnet in 1949 and later adapted it for television in the 1950s. During the 1960s, Webb was involved in acting and television production, creating series such as Adam-12 in 1968 and Emergency! in 1972. His production style was characterized by attention to detail and accuracy, with many projects focusing on law enforcement and emergency services in the Los Angeles area. Webb founded his own production company, Mark VII Limited, which allowed him to oversee the development of multiple projects. Although he retired from acting in 1970 to concentrate on producing, Webb aimed to return to the screen and had plans for a Dragnet revival before his death.
