Isis Naija Gaston, born January 1, 2000, is an American rapper and songwriter known professionally as Ice Spice. She was born and raised in the Bronx, New York City. Her musical career began during her college years in 2020 after meeting record producer RiotUSA. Her rapping style has been recognized by music journalists, who have described her as a breakout star. Ice Spice gained widespread recognition in late 2022 with the song Munch (Feelin U), which became viral on TikTok. Following her signing with 10K Projects in a joint venture with Capitol Records, she released singles including Bikini Bottom and In Ha Mood to promote her debut extended play, Like..? in 2023. The EP featured the Billboard Hot 100 top ten single Princess Diana, a collaboration with Nicki Minaj, and reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. In the same year, she found continued success with collaborative singles such as Boy's a Liar Pt. 2 with PinkPantheress, Karma with Taylor Swift, and Barbie World with Nicki Minaj and Aqua. All of these tracks peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, making her the only rapper to release four top-ten songs in 2023. Her 2024 single Think U the Shit (Fart) preceded her debut studio album Y2K!. She has received several awards, including the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, the People’s Choice Award for New Artist of the Year, and the Impact Award from BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards. She has also been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. Outside of her music career, Ice Spice has appeared in films such as Highest 2 Lowest and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
