About Ian Shelton
Ian Keith Shelton, born on March 30, 1957, is a Canadian astronomer known for discovering SN 1987A, the first modern supernova sufficiently bright and close to be seen with the naked eye. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1979. Shelton began his professional career in 1981 as a Resident Astronomer at the University of Toronto Southern Observatory located at Las Campanas, Chile. His contributions to astronomy include the notable detection of SN 1987A, which has provided valuable insights into supernovae and stellar evolution.
