Hugh White: podcast appearances and interviews

Hugh White, born in 1953, is an emeritus professor of strategic studies at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre of the Australian National University in Canberra. He is a longtime defence and intelligence analyst and an author who has published works on military strategy and international relations. White served as the international relations advisor to Australian Defence Minister Kim Beazley and Prime Minister Bob Hawke between 1985 and 1991. He was the Deputy Secretary for Strategy and Intelligence in the Australian Department of Defence from 1995 to 2000 and was the first director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, holding the position from 2001 to 2004. He also served as head of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre from 2004 to 2011. In 2019, White published the book How to Defend Australia, which attracted national attention for proposing the idea of an independently nuclear-armed Australia. Since 2013, he has been a longtime contributor to the Australian politics think tank Lowy Institute.
