Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is an American politician, lawyer, and diplomat known for her extensive public service career. She served as the 67th United States secretary of state under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013, following her tenure as the first lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She was also a U.S. senator representing New York from 2001 to 2009 and was the Democratic Party’s nominee for president in 2016, becoming the first woman to secure a major party’s nomination and the only woman to win the popular vote in a U.S. presidential election. Born and raised in Chicago, she graduated from Wellesley College in 1969 and Yale Law School in 1973. After working as a congressional legal counsel, she moved to Arkansas and married Bill Clinton in 1975, initially keeping her maiden name. She co-founded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families and became the first woman partner at Little Rock's Rose Law Firm. As first lady of Arkansas and later of the United States, she advocated for healthcare reform and promoted initiatives such as the State Children's Health Insurance Program, adoption, and foster care legislation. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, becoming the first female senator from New York, and later served as Secretary of State responsible for advocating policies including military interventions and international sanctions. She also played a prominent role in the strategic pivot to Asia and was involved in the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State. After her presidential bid, she authored books, founded a political action organization, and held roles such as Honorary Founding Chair of the Institute for Women, Peace and Security at Georgetown University, as well as serving as Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast and a Professor of Practice at Columbia University. Her recent activities include testifying on the Epstein files.
