Helena Norberg Hodge: podcast appearances and interviews

Helena Norberg-Hodge, born on January 10, 1946, is the founder and director of Local Futures, an organization dedicated to the revitalization of cultural and biological diversity and the strengthening of local communities and economies worldwide. Norberg-Hodge is recognized as a pioneer of the Localization movement and has been an outspoken critic of economic globalization. She is the author of the international best-selling book Ancient Futures, published in 1991, which explores tradition and change in the Himalayan region of Ladakh. She also authored Local is Our Future in 2019, advocating for localized economic alternatives such as robust local food systems and democratic structures to resist authoritarianism. Her work includes co-founding the International Forum on Globalization in 1994 with other notable activists and founding the International Alliance for Localization in 2014. Norberg-Hodge produced and co-directed the award-winning documentary The Economics of Happiness in 2011, which highlights her arguments against globalization and in favor of localization. She has received the Right Livelihood Award in 1986 for her efforts in preserving Ladakh’s traditional culture and values amidst tourism and development, and the Goi Peace Award in 2012 for her pioneering work in the localization movement. Additionally, she initiated World Localization Day, a global online broadcast event, further advancing her advocacy for localized alternatives to the globalized economy.
