Helen Carr: podcast appearances and interviews

Helen Carr (9 May 1940 – 20 September 2025) was a British editor, journalist, and emeritus professor of English and comparative literature at Goldsmiths, University of London. She was a co-founder and editor of Women’s Review, a feminist arts magazine first published in 1985 that featured reviews of books and a wide range of cultural material. The magazine included interviews with notable figures such as Margaret Atwood, reviews of exhibitions including Lubaina Himid's Thin Black Line, and tributes to modernist poets like Mina Loy. After the magazine ceased publication, Carr helped transform it into an academic journal titled Women: A Cultural Review, which debuted in 1990 under her and Isobel Armstrong’s editorship. Carr was also an author of significant literary works, including a comprehensive book on the imagist movement, praised by The Guardian as the most extensive on the subject. Her scholarly contributions include authoring The Red Prince, a biography of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and an upcoming book titled Sceptred Isle. As an academic, she specialized in English and comparative literature, contributing to the understanding of cultural and literary histories through her editorial and writing pursuits.
