Gwendolynne Sophia Moore, born on April 18, 1951, is an American politician who has served as the U.S. representative for Wisconsin's 4th congressional district since 2005. Representing the district based in Milwaukee, she was elected as the first woman to hold this position and the second woman overall following Tammy Baldwin. Moore is also recognized as the first African American elected to Congress from Wisconsin. Her district's boundaries were expanded through the 2011 redistricting to include several Milwaukee County suburbs, such as Bayside, Brown Deer, Cudahy, Fox Point, Glendale, St. Francis, South Milwaukee, West Milwaukee, Shorewood, and Whitefish Bay. A member of the Democratic Party, she was elected in 2016 to serve as caucus whip of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 115th United States Congress. Moore has established herself as Wisconsin's longest serving representative following the retirement of Ron Kind in 2023, reflecting her sustained presence and influence in Congress.
