Gisèle Pelicot is a French woman who became a symbol of survivor-led justice after publicly revealing her experience as a victim of multiple rapes. Born on December 7, 1952, she was drugged and raped by her husband Dominique and numerous other men while unconscious between 2011 and 2020. She became aware of the abuse in 2020 when a police search uncovered images of her being raped on her husband's computer after he was arrested for upskirting women in a supermarket. Pelicot's decision to waive her right to anonymity as a victim drew international attention and admiration. Her bravery in speaking out has garnered her recognition and support worldwide. Her advocacy contributed to her inclusion in the BBC's 2024 list of 100 Women and the Financial Times list of the twenty-five most influential women of the year. She was honored as a knight of the Legion of Honour on Bastille Day in 2025. In February 2026, she published a memoir co-written with others, sharing her story and advocating for victims of sexual assault.
