Gil Duran: podcast appearances and interviews

Gil Duran, born in 1976, is an American journalist and political strategist based in San Francisco. His career began in journalism at the San Jose Mercury News in 1998. He has held editorial positions such as the California opinion editor for The Sacramento Bee and the editorial page editor for the San Francisco Examiner. Duran has also served as press secretary for California governor Jerry Brown and as communications director for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein from 2008 to 2010. Additionally, he was the press secretary to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa from 2007 to 2008. In 2013, he was the communications director for Kamala Harris during her time as California attorney general. In 2018, Duran assumed the role of California opinion editor for The Sacramento Bee, where he led strategy for McClatchy's five California news organizations, including The Fresno Bee, The Modesto Bee, The Merced Sun-Star, and The Tribune in San Luis Obispo. He also writes the Nerd Reich Newsletter. Throughout his career, Duran has worked as a Democrat in various political consulting roles for notable figures including Jerry Brown, Dianne Feinstein, and Kamala Harris.
