About Gernot Wagner
Gernot Wagner, born in 1980 in Austria, is a climate economist affiliated with Columbia Business School. He serves as faculty director of the school's Climate Knowledge Initiative. Wagner holds an AB and a PhD in political economy and government from Harvard University, as well as an MA in economics from Stanford University. He was a founding co-director of Harvard's Solar Geoengineering Research Program from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, he joined the faculty of New York University and moved to Columbia University in 2022. Wagner is the co-author, alongside Martin L. Weitzman, of the book Climate Shock, which was recognized as a Top 15 Financial Times-McKinsey Business Book of the Year in 2015. Additionally, he writes a monthly column for Project Syndicate. In 2022, Wagner was awarded the 'Austrian of the Year' distinction by the Austrian newspaper Die Presse.
