Georges St-Pierre is a Canadian former professional mixed martial artist born on May 19, 1981. Recognized as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history, he achieved notable success in the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he was a two-division champion. St-Pierre held the UFC welterweight title three times, winning it twice and serving as interim champion once between November 2006 and April 2008. He was ranked as the top welterweight worldwide for several years and was named Canadian Athlete of the Year by Rogers Sportsnet in 2008, 2009, and 2010. His accomplishments include holding multiple UFC records such as most title-fight victories, most successful title defenses, highest significant strike defense percentage, and the most takedowns landed. He also set records for most control time and top position time in the UFC. St-Pierre retired in December 2013 as the reigning welterweight champion, having defended his title nine times and maintaining a long streak of consecutive wins and rounds won. He briefly returned to compete in November 2017 at UFC 217, defeating Michael Bisping and winning the middleweight title to become a multi-division champion before relinquishing the title and retiring for health reasons. Outside the ring, St-Pierre has appeared in several films including Kickboxer: Vengeance, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Cartels, and King of Killers.
