He played basketball at UCLA and was part of the 1975 team that won the NCAA championship under coach John Wooden. Smith later played at Hawaii, setting the school's single-season scoring record of 23.4 points per game, a record that remained unbeaten as of 2012. He also worked in the film industry as a stuntman and occasional actor, with a notable role as a bartender in the 1994 biopic Cobb. Smith's life took a tragic turn in 2012 when he disappeared under suspicious circumstances after leaving a friend's house in Oak Park. Despite efforts to locate him, he was declared legally dead two years later. His remains were discovered in 2014 near Palmdale. In 2015, a suspect was arrested and later convicted of Smith's murder. The case involved allegations of an altercation related to Smith's romantic involvement with the suspect's wife. Smith's life is marked by an array of accomplishments in sports and entertainment, culminating in a tragic end, with the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death investigated and legally addressed.
