He also worked in the film industry as a stuntman and occasional actor, with a notable role as a bartender in the 1994 biopic Cobb. Despite efforts to locate him, he was declared legally dead two years later. His remains were discovered in 2014 near Palmdale. In 2015, a suspect was arrested and later convicted of Smith's murder.
