Gary Johnson is an American businessman and politician currently serving as the Head of Safety and Compliance Strategy at J2 Marketing. Born on January 1, 1953, in Minot, North Dakota, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Mexico. Johnson has a notable background in politics, having served as the 29th governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003. During his tenure, he was recognized for his anti-tax policies and his frequent use of veto power, often exceeding that of his contemporaries, to control state budgeting and policy outcomes. His administration focused on issues such as school voucher reforms and cannabis decriminalization. Johnson initially ran for governor in 1994 on a platform of low taxes and anti-crime policies, defeating the incumbent Democratic governor, Bruce King. He was re-elected in 1998, winning with 55 percent of the vote. After leaving office, Johnson remained active in politics, including serving as the Libertarian Party nominee for president of the United States in 2012 and 2016.
