Gary Hill: podcast appearances and interviews

Gary Hill is an American artist born in 1951 known for his work in video, installation art, sculpture, and performance. Over a career spanning more than fifty years, beginning in the late 1960s, he has established himself as a foundational figure in single- and multi-channel video and new-media art. His practice is characterized by an independent approach inspired more by philosophical and literary texts than by traditional concerns of art and film, such as representation and narrative. Hill has used emerging technologies including computer software, projection, virtual reality, and computer-generated imagery to explore themes related to consciousness, the body, perception, time, and language, both visual and verbal. His work often examines the invisible operations of thinking and how perception and cognition interact. Recognized internationally, Hill's works are part of public collections such as the Centre Pompidou, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Tate Gallery, and the Whitney Museum. He has exhibited at prominent museums and has participated in major events including Documenta, the Venice Biennale, and the Whitney Biennial. Among the awards he has received are the MacArthur Fellowship, Guggenheim Fellowship, Rockefeller Fellowship, and Rome Prize. Hill resides and works in Seattle, Washington, and Mallorca, Spain.
