Garrett Brown: podcast appearances and interviews

Garrett Brown is an American inventor known for creating the Steadicam, a device that allows camera operators to film while walking without the shake and jostles typical of handheld cameras. His invention has been used in over seventy motion pictures, including well-known films such as Rocky, where it captured the training sequences and the iconic scene at the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps. Brown's work on the 1976 film Bound for Glory earned an Academy Award for Best Cinematography, and his contributions to film technology have been recognized with an Oscar for Scientific or Technical Achievement as well as an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In addition to the Steadicam, Brown developed several other camera innovations, including the DiveCam for Olympic divers, MobyCam for underwater footage of Olympic swimmers, and SkyCam, used in football games. These inventions have advanced filming techniques across various sports and entertainment mediums. Brown's collaboration with other engineers led to the development of a UHF transmitter that allowed director Stanley Kubrick to monitor live footage during filming. Brown is affiliated with the American Society of Cinematographers and the Directors Guild of America. His son, Jonathan Brown, is a television director, and together they worked as Steadicam operators on the film Bulworth.
