Eric Johnson, born on August 17, 1954, is an American musician known for his exceptional guitar skills across various genres. His 1990 album Ah Via Musicom received platinum certification from the RIAA, and its track Cliffs of Dover won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Johnson's proficiency extends beyond electric guitar; he also plays acoustic, lap steel, and resonator guitars, as well as bass, piano, and vocals. His musical repertoire encompasses rock, blues, jazz fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical, and country. Recognized for his technical skill and musical versatility, Johnson has been called one of the most respected guitarists on the planet by Keyboard magazine in 2006. In addition to his career as a performing artist, Johnson serves as a professor in the University of North Dakota's School of Medicine & Health Sciences within the Department of Family & Community Medicine.
