Emily Kathleen Anne Mortimer, born on 6 October 1971, is an English actress and filmmaker. She began her career appearing in stage productions before transitioning to film and television roles. She received critical recognition for her performance in the film Lovely and Amazing, winning an Independent Spirit Award in 2003. Mortimer is notably known for her role as Mackenzie McHale in the HBO series The Newsroom, which aired from 2012 to 2014. She also co-created and co-wrote the series Doll & Em, which aired between 2014 and 2015, demonstrating her skills behind the scenes. In 2021, she wrote and directed the miniseries The Pursuit of Love, earning her a nomination for the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actress.
