Elizabeth Bathory: podcast appearances and interviews

Countess Elizabeth Báthory of Ecsed was a Hungarian noblewoman born on 7 August 1560 and died on 21 August 1614. She was a member of the powerful House of Báthory, which owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary. Báthory and four of her servants were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls and women between 1590 and 1610. She was charged with 80 counts of murder and was convicted. Her servants were tried and executed, while Báthory was imprisoned within the Castle of Csejte, also known as Čachtice, until her death. The accusations against her were supported by testimony from more than 300 individuals, some of whom provided descriptions of physical evidence and the presence of mutilated victims. Scholarly debate exists regarding these claims, with some suggesting that the accusations may have been motivated by political motives to diminish her family's influence, which was viewed as a threat to regional interests including the Habsburg empire. Legends about Báthory quickly entered folklore, with stories alleging vampiric tendencies such as bathing in the blood of virgins to preserve her youth. These tales emerged many years after her death and are regarded by modern historians as unreliable. While some speculate that her story inspired Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, there is no direct evidence linking her to the creation of the novel. She is often referred to by epithets such as the Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.
