Dwayne Romel Smith, born on 12 April 1983, is a former Barbadian international cricketer who represented the West Indies in all three formats of the game. An all-rounder, he is recognized for his aggressive and powerful right-handed batting, medium pace bowling, and athletic fielding skills. Smith was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 T20 World Cup. Throughout his career, he played for Barbados from its inception and also competed in England for Sussex for three seasons between 2008 and 2010. He became a notable Twenty20 player, making appearances in various leagues including the Indian Premier League for teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Deccan Chargers. Additionally, he played in the Pakistan Super League for Islamabad United, in the Australian Big Bash League for New South Wales, and in the Bangladesh Premier League for Khulna Royal Bengals. On 1 March 2017, Smith announced his retirement from international cricket. He previously held the record for the highest strike rate of 414.28 in a T20 International innings, a record that was later broken by Harry Brook in 2023. Currently, Smith is pursuing academic interests as a PhD student in computational social science at George Mason University.
