Mark McDonald is a professor of Future Mobility at the University of the West of England Bristol. Born on 7 June 1980, he is a Scottish academic with expertise in the field of future mobility. His work involves researching and teaching topics related to transportation, innovation, and technological development within the mobility sector. Prior to his academic career, McDonald was involved in Scottish politics, serving as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Aberdeen Donside constituency from 2013 to 2021. He previously represented the North East Scotland region between May 2011 and May 2013. McDonald was a member of the Scottish National Party and served as Minister for Childcare and Early Years in the Scottish Government. His political career was marred by allegations of inappropriate behavior, which led to his suspension from the SNP in November 2017. Following an investigation that substantiated the claims, McDonald issued an apology in March 2018, announced his departure from the SNP, and sat as an independent member in the Scottish Parliament.
