John Knox: podcast appearances and interviews

John Knox was a Scottish minister, Reformed theologian, and writer who played a leading role in the Scottish Reformation. Born around 1514 in Giffordgate, Haddington, East Lothian, he received education at the University of St Andrews and initially worked as a notary-priest. Influenced by early reformers such as George Wishart, Knox became involved in efforts to reform the Scottish Church. He experienced political and ecclesiastical upheaval, including the murder of Cardinal David Beaton and interventions by the regent Mary of Guise. After being captured by French forces and exiled to England in 1549, Knox served as a royal chaplain to Edward VI and influenced liturgical texts, including the Book of Common Prayer. Amid political changes, Knox left England when Queen Mary I re-established Catholicism, moving first to Geneva and then Frankfurt. In Geneva, he met John Calvin and gained experience in Reformed theology and presbyterian polity. Knox developed the Book of Common Order, which was adopted by the Reformed Church in Scotland and was the first book printed in Gaelic. Returning to Scotland, he led the Protestant Reformation, shaping the ecclesiastical structure and doctrine of the new Kirk. Knox contributed to the creation of a new confession of faith and authored the five-volume History of the Reformation in Scotland. Throughout Mary I's reign, he remained a prominent religious leader, criticizing her support of Catholic practices and calling for her execution after her imprisonment. Knox continued to preach until the end of his life, leaving a lasting impact on Scottish religious history.
