Joel Brown, born on January 31, 1980, in Baltimore, Maryland, is the principal structural engineer and project manager at Ohio State University. His career is marked by a transition from athletics to engineering, with a strong background in sports achieved through his time as an All-American hurdler for the Ohio State Buckeyes track and field team. During his collegiate career, he finished third in the 110 meter hurdles at the 2004 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In the realm of athletics, Brown competed at a high level, finishing sixth at the 2005 World Championships and seventh at the 2005 World Athletics Final. He was a member of the relay team that set a world record in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay with a time of 53.31 seconds at the 2008 Penn Relay Carnival, contributing one-quarter of the team that included Aubrey Herring, David Oliver, and Aries Merritt. Brown's personal best in the 110 meter hurdles is 13.20 seconds, achieved at the Bislett Games on June 9, 2011.
