Brent Michael Jones, born February 12, 1963, is a former professional football player recognized for his role as a tight end with the San Francisco 49ers during his 11-year NFL career from 1987 to 1997. After playing college football at Santa Clara University, Jones was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the 1986 NFL draft but was released after one season. He joined the 49ers in 1987 during training camp and became the starting tight end in his third season following the retirement of John Frank. Throughout his career with the 49ers, Jones established himself as a key player, setting franchise records in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns for a tight end, records later surpassed by Vernon Davis. Jones played in 143 regular-season games, winning 110, and participated in 21 playoff games, starting 19 and winning 14. He contributed to nine NFC West titles and secured three Super Bowl championships. Recognized for his performance, Jones was named an All-Pro three times and selected to four Pro Bowls. His playoff contributions include 60 receptions for 740 yards. Jones finished his NFL career with one of the highest winning percentages in the league's history, never experiencing a losing season. He is often regarded as part of the greatest wide receiver-tight end duo in NFL history alongside Jerry Rice.
