Douglas George Allan was a Scottish wildlife cameraman and photographer recognized for his work in polar regions and underwater environments. Born on 17 July 1951, he initially worked as a diver, scientist, and photographer in Antarctica, an area where he made significant contributions and was awarded the Polar Medal in 1983. Following this period, he transitioned to full-time cinematography, becoming a principal cameraman for numerous BBC wildlife programmes. Throughout his career, Allan earned multiple awards for his cinematography, including eight Emmy Awards. His work as an award-winning natural history photographer, documentary filmmaker, diver, author, and public speaker has made him a prominent figure in the field of wildlife filmmaking.
