Donna Reed, born Donna Belle Mullenger on January 27, 1921, was an American actress with a career spanning over 40 years. She appeared in more than 40 films and is best known for her role as Mary Hatch Bailey in the classic film It's a Wonderful Life. Reed also received acclaim for her performance as Lorene in the war drama From Here to Eternity, which earned her an Academy Award. Beyond her film work, Reed was known for her television role as Donna Stone in the sitcom The Donna Reed Show, which aired from 1958 to 1966. Her portrayal of a middle-class American mother was noted for its assertiveness and complexity, setting her apart from other television matriarchs of the era. She received multiple Emmy Award nominations for this role and won the Golden Globe Award for Best TV Star in 1963.
