Domee Shi is a Canadian animator, film director, and screenwriter born on September 8, 1989. She began her career at Pixar in 2011 as a storyboard artist, contributing to films such as Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, and Toy Story 4. She also served as an additional story artist for Incredibles 2. Shi directed the short film Bao in 2018, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, along with nominations for the Annie Awards, the International Online Cinema Awards, and the Tribeca Film Festival. She later directed the feature films Turning Red in 2022 and Elio in 2025. Shi's work at Pixar has been notable for her being the first woman to direct a short film and the first woman with sole director's credit on a feature film for the studio.
