Derrick Harris: podcast appearances and interviews

Derrick Harris was a Chicago-based music producer recognized as one of the pioneers of house music and acid house. He is best known for the track 'I've Lost Control,' released as a 12-inch single on Trax Records, which employed a Roland TR-808 and a Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer to produce the distinctive modulated waveform sound associated with acid house. This track is considered to be among the first to utilize this particular sound and gained cult underground popularity, in part due to DJ Ron Hardy's Music Box club in Chicago. Harris's contributions to electronic music have had a lasting influence, with his innovative use of synthesizer technology inspiring the development of acid house. He passed away on 13 June 2019 from kidney failure. His close friend and production partner, Marshall Jefferson, paid tribute to Harris, describing him as a 'true pioneer' and noting his energetic presence at parties. Jefferson highlighted Harris's impact, stating that anyone calling themselves a raver should thank him. Harris was survived by his three sons, and his family organized a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses and hospital bills.
