Dean Phillips: podcast appearances and interviews

Dean Benson Phillips is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. He served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 3rd congressional district from 2019 to 2025. Before his political career, Phillips was an executive in the food and beverage industry. He held the position of president and CEO of his family's distilled spirits business, Phillips Distilling Company. Additionally, he was a co-owner of Talenti Gelato, Belvedere Vodka, and Penny's, a café chain based in the Twin Cities. Phillips was elected in 2018 after defeating six-term Republican incumbent Erik Paulsen, marking a historic win as the first Democrat in over sixty years for that seat. He was reelected twice with comfortable margins and was considered a moderate Democrat. During his tenure, he briefly co-chaired the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. In November 2023, Phillips announced he would not seek re-election. Despite his voting support for President Joe Biden, Phillips launched a long-shot presidential campaign in the 2024 Democratic primaries. His campaign emphasized providing younger leadership, and he secured four delegates at the Democratic National Convention, making him the runner-up to Biden in the primary race.
