David Gene Pearson (December 22, 1934 – November 12, 2018) was an American stock car driver known for his career in NASCAR's Grand National and Winston Cup Series from 1960 to 1986. Driving primarily the No. 21 Mercury for Wood Brothers Racing, Pearson achieved notable success including winning three Cup Series championships in 1966, 1968, and 1969. He was the 1960 NASCAR Rookie of the Year and never missed a race during his active years. Pearson was recognized for his consistent performance, finishing third in the 1974 season points despite competing in only nineteen of thirty races. He was a prolific winner, accumulating 105 victories in 574 starts, which ranks him second on NASCAR's all-time win list. In addition to his wins, Pearson secured 113 pole positions and achieved victories across various racing venues, including three on road courses and numerous on superspeedways, short tracks, and dirt tracks.
