David Benjamin James, born on August 1, 1970, is a former English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper and has also worked as a football manager and pundit. He made a significant impact in the Premier League, appearing in 572 top-level matches, which places him fifth on the all-time list. James held the record for most clean sheets in the Premier League with 169 until surpassed by Petr Čech. He also holds the record for most penalties saved in Premier League history with 13. During his international career, he was capped 53 times by England between 1997 and 2010 and served as the team's first-choice goalkeeper in both the Euro 2004 and 2010 World Cup campaigns. James began his club career with Watford and later played for several Premier League teams including Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City, and Portsmouth. His achievements include winning the Football League Cup with Liverpool in 1995 and the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008. He appeared in multiple cup finals and, at age 39, became the oldest goalkeeper to play in an FA Cup Final in 2010.
