David Henry Chase, born on August 22, 1945, is an American writer, producer, and director recognized for his influential work in television and film. He is best known for creating the HBO drama The Sopranos, which he also served as head writer and executive producer. The television series aired for six seasons from 1999 to 2007 and earned him seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Chase's career includes contributions to other notable shows such as The Rockford Files, I'll Fly Away, and Northern Exposure. He also created the series Almost Grown, which aired for ten episodes between 1988 and 1989. His film debut was with Grave of the Vampire in 1972, and his later work includes movies such as Not Fade Away released in 2012 and The Many Saints of Newark in 2021, the latter serving as a prequel to The Sopranos.
