He has contributed as a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and bass guitarist to bands such as Sugar, Mercyland, and Buzz Hungry, and has also performed solo. As the chief of Chase Park Transduction studio in Athens, Barbe has been involved in producing nearly every album by the country rock band Drive-By Truckers. In addition to his music career, Barbe holds the position of Music Business Director at the University of Georgia, where he directs the Music Business Certificate Program.
